Ahead of its upcoming 20th anniversary, independent cultural venue Village Underground will open a new rooftop terrace at its Shoreditch home this summer, giving the public access to both the rooftop and its iconic tube carriages for the first time. Village Underground Rooftop will offer an open-air setting with bar and East London views.

Known for its music and cultural programming, Village Underground has been a key part of Hackney’s nightlife for nearly two decades, hosting an eclectic mix of live music, club nights and multidisciplinary events, and working closely with promoters and collectives to support both emerging and established artists.

Housed in a renovated Victorian warehouse with cavernous railway arches, Village Underground is a distinctive and atmospheric venue. The new rooftop terrace, designed by MOBO Works, opens up a new way to experience it beyond the main room. Visitors will also be able to access the venue’s iconic tube carriages, a long defining feature of the Shoreditch skyline. Previously used as workspace by the Village Underground team, the carriages will now be opened up and integrated into the wider space.

Village Underground Rooftop will open on Friday 3 July and will operate Wednesday to Sunday thereafter.  The terrace will include a central bar and space to gather throughout the summer, with National Pizza of the Year UK award winner Bad Boy Pizza Society confirmed as food partner, bringing its 12” New York-inspired pizzas to the terrace.

Also available for private hire, the space is open for brand activations, launches, collaborations and can host a capacity of up to 300 people. Please contact grace@villageunderground.co.uk to find out more.

As Village Underground approaches its 20th year, the rooftop forms part of the venue’s ongoing evolution, supporting the long-term future of both Village Underground and its sister venue EartH as independent spaces for music and culture in East London.
